Walk and Talk Therapy in Canterbury
Spending time in nature can be deeply restorative — not just physically, but emotionally and mentally too. I’m pleased to now offer Walk and Talk Therapy to clients living in or near Canterbury, Kent.
This approach combines the benefits of traditional counselling with the healing qualities of the natural environment. Rather than sitting face-to-face in a therapy room, we meet outdoors and walk side by side. It’s a gentle but powerful shift that can bring a new sense of openness, freedom, and clarity.
Why Walk and Talk Therapy?
Research has shown that spending time in green spaces can reduce stress, lift mood, and support overall wellbeing. Walking in nature can help regulate the nervous system and support the body to feel grounded and safe — a valuable foundation for emotional work.
Walking side by side, rather than sitting face-to-face, can also help some people find it easier to open up. The movement, fresh air, and changing scenery often help thoughts and feelings to flow more freely.
Nature as Co-Therapist
One of the unique aspects of working outdoors is that nature becomes part of the process. The environment can reflect and support your inner world — from tangled branches that mirror a sense of overwhelm, to open skies that bring a feeling of possibility.
We might pause and take in what’s around us, use natural objects as metaphors, or simply walk and talk. It’s a flexible approach guided by your needs and comfort.
Is Walk and Talk Therapy Right for You?
Walk and Talk sessions are suitable for many clients, though not all. We’ll discuss your needs in an initial consultation to see if this style of therapy feels like a good fit for you.
Some practical things to consider:
Sessions are held in safe, accessible outdoor locations near Canterbury.
You’ll need weather-appropriate clothing and comfortable footwear.
We will agree on confidentiality, privacy, and what to do in case of bad weather or interruptions.
Your safety, comfort, and confidentiality remain my top priorities — just as they would in a traditional therapy room.
